one of the best things about my new job is sometimes i get to be around kids.

last night i saw this little kid, maybe about five years old.

he was only wearing one shoe.

he said "see, we've been trying to teach me how to tie shoes for THE LONGEST TIME and i just figured it out."

and i was talking to his mom, but keeping half an eye on him. he wasn't happy with that.

"see?!"

and so i looked and said "but you've only got one shoe on. you can't do much with one shoe"

and that seemed to stump him.

his mom said "you only need one shoe to practice with."

and i guess that set off some kind of reaction with this kid. he said "i'm going to play baseball now. my brother played baseball last year but i couldnt. now i can."

so i said "what position do you play?"

because i played baseball, and i was going to reminisce with him.

his mom said "we'll find out next week."

and you could tell she wanted to leave, but he wouldn't move. he just kept talking.

"i'm going to play teeball and my brother's going to play little league and i'll be playing for the dodgers."

his mom finally pulled him away.

i love kids.

i should've stayed with being a teacher.

maybe i'll start babysitting.
